A protest song about an inner city bypass, that was hindered for 40 years by local protest. It was planned to intesrsect and cut apart the heart of a vibrant wellington artistic community. It was ultimately completed by the mayor Kerry Prendergast.

Im not inclined to believe all I read,
until I saw the graffiti.
Some wag put it very succinct and
sprayed it neatly.
Like hubby’s prime investments,
the intent couldn’t be put less discretely.
It said “get fucked Wellington”
and then signed off “love Kerry”.

For 40 years this middle aged route,
this bypass bent arrow.
A get fucked valentine
straight to the heart of Te Aro.
Lets reinforce the notion
that history todays not valued tomorrow.
So bulldoze the arts
but at the same time brand and sell us with a boring logo.

See the ruins of a century
replaced with a gain of 90 seconds.
And if thats not fantastic enough,
how about the sound that gridlock beckons.
As peak oil looms, we need the extra room
for inner-city ‘farm wagons’.
So lay a piece of road that coincidently Kerry can
claim her name on.

So thanks Ms Ghastly for all the extra work
to screw the inner-city.
Is your gaze north to Auckland and
a planning model thats shitty.
With your teeth now in the waterfront,
do you think some apartments will make it look pretty.
All they do is block out the view,
but they’ll have pristine walls to house graffitti.
